Junior Sous Chef

BLW Recruitment is recruiting for a Junior Sous Chef to join the exceptional catering team at a prestigious Cambridge College, Cambridge.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious chef looking to take the next step in their career. Working closely with the Head Chef and Sous Chef, you’ll help lead the kitchen team, maintain exceptional food standards and support the delivery of high-quality dining for students, Fellows, conferences and special events.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Head Chef and Sous Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
• Lead and motivate the team in the absence of senior chefs.
• Prepare and present high-quality dishes across all kitchen sections.
• Supervise, train and develop junior chefs, ensuring consistency and high standards.
• Assist with menu planning, stock ordering and cost control.
• Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, HACCP, allergen legislation and Health & Safety procedures.
• Monitor food quality, portion control and minimise waste.
• Help maintain a positive, organised and efficient kitchen environment.

About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

• Previous experience as a Junior Sous Chef or an experienced Chef de Partie ready to step up.
• NVQ Level 2 in Professional Cookery (Level 3 desirable).
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
• Excellent knowledge of food hygiene, HACCP and kitchen safety.
• A passion for producing high-quality food with great attention to detail.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to perform well under pressure.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays when required.

Salary & Benefits:

• Circa £37,000 salary
• 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays
