Role: Bar & Café Assistant
Pay: £26,000.00-£27,000.00 per year

Reports to: Catering Manager / Duty Manager
Location: Cambridge
Role Purpose:
To support the delivery of high-quality bar and café services, ensuring standards of service, presentation, and compliance are consistently met. The role contributes to creating a welcoming and professional environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve fresh food, hot and cold drinks, and evening bar service.
- Greet customers, take orders, process payments, and promote products where appropriate.
- Ensure service consistently meets or exceeds agreed standards.
- Maintain excellent presentation of all front-of-house and servery areas.
- Serve alcohol responsibly and in line with licensing laws.
- Ensure allergens are clearly displayed and special dietary requirements are accommodated appropriately.
Operations & Stock
- Prepare and clear service areas in line with procedures.
- Wash, dry, and correctly store utensils and glassware.
- Ensure food is stored and displayed in accordance with food safety standards.
- Maintain stock levels, rotate stock, and report low supplies promptly.
Health & Safety
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food hygiene, and safe working practices.
- Follow cleaning schedules and maintain accurate records.
- Assist with periodic deep cleaning as required.
- Report hazards or incidents to the Manager.
- Participate in required training, including Health & Safety, manual handling, PREVENT, and data protection.
General
- Work flexibly in accordance with the departmental rota, including evenings and weekends.
- Support functions and events as required.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by management.
- Work in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
Person Specification
Essential
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and well presented.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication skills.
- Basic numeracy and confidence handling payments.
Desirable
- Previous bar or café experience.
- Barista training.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and allergen regulations.
- Personal Licence Holder (or willingness to train).
